A Queer Sunset Cliffs Elopement – A Romantic & Intentional Wedding Day

Some elopements just stick with me, and this queer Sunset Cliffs elopement will forever be one of those days. Also, it was the best way to spend the 2025 Inauguration Day – celebrating queer joy and love. From the windy and ever-present pride flags to their sweet, personal ceremony and every moment in between, this day was all about celebrating queer love in the most intentional and joyful way.

Starting a New Chapter: Why They Chose a San Diego Elopement at Sunset Cliffs

This couple had recently moved to San Diego and wanted to begin this chapter of life with a celebration that truly felt like them. They wanted a non-traditional LGBTQ+ elopement that was intimate, personal, and ocean-view dreamy. Naturally, they chose Sunset Cliffs, one of the most iconic elopement locations in San Diego, known for its breathtaking coastal scenery and golden light. As always, it did not dissapoint!

Pre-Ceremony Moments: Getting Ready for a Queer Sunset Cliffs Elopement in San Diego

They got ready off-site surrounded by their closest friends and family, keeping the vibe easygoing and super low-key. Once they arrived at Sunset Cliffs, they made a few last adjustments (see below!) before the ceremony.

They chose to arrive separately so they could have that sweet “first look” moment as they walked into the ceremony spot/cliff. In addition, one of the partner’s walked towards the ceremony hand in hand with her son… I teared up, you can’t blame me! 🥹

LGBTQ+ Wedding Ceremony with Ocean Views and Pride Flags

For their Sunset Cliffs elopement ceremony, this couple kept things simple and meaningful. No arch, no florals – only the two of them surrounded by their closest friends and fam. The pride flags brought vibrant color and personality to the space while honoring their love and feeling like a very proud celebration.

They shared personal vows overlooking the ocean. One of the most touching details of the afternoon? Their son signed their marriage license – which was such a cute and special moment that made it feel even more personal.

Sunset Portraits and a Celebratory Dinner in San Diego

After the ceremony, we walked around the cliffs for golden hour portraits, letting the wild wind do its thing (there’s a LOT of that at Sunset Cliffs). There’s something so romantic about the beauty of Sunset Cliffs – the sweeping ocean views really are something else.

Their celebration continued with a group dinner to celebrate their wedding day. These two kept their day grounded around what’s important to them and left out the other details, which is something I love to see when couples choose to elope.

What Made This San Diego Queer Sunset Cliffs Elopement So Unique

There’s so much that made this LGBTQ+ elopement in San Diego stand out – from the rainbow flags, beautiful ceremony officiated by Lauren Cazares, and the fact that it took place on Inauguration Day. They honored their story, their community, and their family, and that’s the most beautiful thing.
