Why a Longer, Multi-Location San Diego Engagement Session Tells Your Love Story Best

More Time = More Authenticity & Variety

When you’re planning your San Diego engagement session, it’s easy to think, “Do we really need more than an hour or even a full hour?” Many couples assume a short and sweet session is enough, and it totally is if your main goal is to get some photos for your wedding invites. But if you’re looking for an experience to document this very big era, giving yourselves extra time lets you relax, have fun, and capture your unique dynamics and love. With a multi-location engagement session, you’re able to get fully comfortable and capture your love in different settings.

The Benefits of a Longer San Diego Engagement Session

Comfort in Front of the Camera

Most people aren’t used to being professionally photographed, and that’s completely okay! The *vast* majority of my clients claim that they aren’t photo people and have a little photo-anxiety. The first 20–30 minutes of any session is often spent getting comfortable both with each other and the camera (for you, not me lol). A longer session means we’re not rushing – you get time to settle in, let go of any nerves, and just be yourselves. As your photographer, I will always ease into the session with guidance that gets progressively more intimate as you’re comfy!

Multiple Locations = More Storytelling

With a longer San Diego engagement session, we can explore multiple locations that feel meaningful to you. Maybe it’s where you had your first date, your favorite weekend spot, or just places that reflect different sides of your relationship – beach and city, cozy home or adventurous nature. If you and your person love going out just as much as staying in, we can plan a date night session and cozy in home photos too. More locations mean more variety, and ultimately a gallery that genuinely reflects you both.

More Outfit Changes, More Style Options

The “what do we wear!!” question is a huge one, and having multiple outfits takes so much of that pressure off. Maybe you love the idea of a casual look that feels effortlessly you but also want to dress up for a little drama. With extra time, there’s room for both. Having different outfits adds another layer of storytelling to your session, showing all the different vibes and moods of everyday life.

Light Variety & Weather Adaptation for San Diego Engagement Session

Lighting is everything in photography, and the best light changes quickly. A longer session gives us flexibility – if a location is too crowded, we can wait it out or shift plans. If the sun is taking its time to get to that dreamy glow, we don’t have to rush. We can get some dreamy detail shots in the meantime! More time = more light variety = stunning photos with great variety.

Ideal for Couples Who May Need Time to Feel Safe

For many LGBTQ+ couples, public displays of affection haven’t always felt safe or comfortable. A longer session allows you to ease into the experience without pressure. We can start in a quiet or familiar location where you feel totally at home (or maybe it’s literally at home) before transitioning to more public spaces if you’re comfortable. Your engagement session should be a celebration of your love, and taking the time to create a safe, affirming space makes all the difference.

Making the Most of Your San Diego Engagement Session

At the end of the day, investing in a longer engagement session is about capturing your relationship in a way that feels natural, fun, and truly you. And on a logistical/cost note, the price for a longer session is much less per minute than the shorter sessions. So it might feel more approachable than you think! Give yourself the option to slow down, explore, and create a session that tells your love story in the most authentic way possible. ❤️
